About Centaur

Centaur is the brainchild of ex-government auditor Keith Sobey. Keith is a qualified accountant and worked at a senior level in public finance from 1975 to 1999, latterly as a Senior Manager for the Audit Commission in London. Keith launched Centaur in 2000 after taking early retirement from the Audit Commission with the help of his business partner Andrew Cork who is now Centaur/Maxnet's Finance Director.

Centaur was launched initially in the sports gambling market and, due to its unique accountability framework in that sector and a phenomenal profits record on its initial services Racing and Bismark, grew a client base of over 1500 members by the end of 2003.

Centaur operate an annual events programme at which our clients have opportunities to meet our management face to face and to network with fellow clients.

In 2003, arising out of Centaur’s phenomenal success, Keith Sobey was invited to give a keynote speech to the Invest 2003 Conference on the proposition “The Gambling Market versus The Stock Market - There Is Only One Winner!”

Keith’s speech was well received and prompted the Centaur Board to begin marketing in the Investor Market. Thanks to products like Maxnet and Bismark, Centaur’s brand is well known in that sector today and Keith was invited back to Invest 2007 to give a presentation on Maxnet. Investor clients now represent over two thirds of Centaur’s client base.

Centaur’s headquarters has been based in Seahouses, Northumberland since 2001. Our offices are open 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 9qm to 1pm Saturday and Sunday.
